About the Mural Gazer project

Every year thousands of people from all over the world come to Chemainus, B.C., to view its famous murals, which depict scenes of First Nations culture, European exploration and settlement, logging, mining, agriculture, and ongoing emigration.

Those scenes are the inspiration for The Mural Gazer series. The premise of this evolving collection is the ability of retired logging truck driver Harry Sanderson to enter the ‘mind spaces’ of people depicted in the murals and experience the community’s history from their perspectives.

I hope stories will entertain and delight visitors and Chemainus residents alike.
